George Saunders was awarded a MacArthur
"Genius" Grant in 2006 for "bring[ing]
to contemporary American fiction a sense of humor, pathos,
and literary style all his own.".He is the author
of three collections of short stories, In Persuasion
Nation, Pastoralia, and CivilWarLand
in Bad Decline, and the novella The Brief and
Frightening Reign of Phil. He also wrote a children’s
book, The Very Persistent Gappers of Frip, which
was a New York Times bestseller. In 2000, The
New Yorker named him one of the “Best Writers
Under 40.” His work appears regularly in The
New Yorker, Harper’s, and GQ. Saunders
teaches at Syracuse University. |
